How To Play “Game Of Thrones Theme” On Kalimba – Tabs Included

Game of Thrones was a big TV show a couple of years back, and it seems that everyone jumped on the hype train. But even though the opinions were quite polarized in the second half of the season, one thing managed to unite all the fans of the show.

They all agree that the main theme of the show is incredible. You will love the fact that the quality of the song doesn’t have to mean that it is difficult to play.

If you are one of many people who enjoyed learning more about Westeros, dragons, or you simply love the song, then it is something you should definitely learn how to play.

A Song Of Ice And Fire

When the show started in 2011, no one had an idea what kind of impact it would get. Fantasy TV shows were never something the majority enjoyed, and everything had to be perfect.

Each TV show needs to have a perfect intro since that’s what will make people want to stay for more. We all know Power Rangers and that legendary intro song, and that applies to nearly any show in existence.

Ramin Djawadi had a task of composing the song, and the only condition he had was to avoid using violins and flutes. The reason for this was the belief that fantasy-themed shows overused these instruments, so Ramin Djawadi stuck to cello instead.

While the main theme starts in the minor key, it quickly changes to the major one, and keeps alternating between the two. Whether this was done to show the dynamic of the series, conflicts between the characters or something else is unknown.

But it surely gives a unique feel to the intro. Djawadi wrote the piece based on the two episodes he saw, and his idea was to capture the overall impression of the Game of Thrones.

To be honest, this isn’t the easiest song you can learn on the kalimba, but you will enjoy every step of the learning. There are a couple of versions available online, and many of them are able to keep the essence of the theme.
